# Glossary

> What each word in Onecortex means, in one line, with a link to the page that explains it.

| Word | Meaning |
| - | - |
| **Adapter** | The part of the shim specific to one framework. See [Entrypoints](/build/entrypoints). |
| **Agent** | One deployable agent from one folder of one repository, with one endpoint. ID `agt_...`. See [How Onecortex works](/how-it-works). |
| **`agent.yml`** | The one file you add: runtime, entrypoint, dependencies. See [the reference](/agent-yml). |
| **API key** | A credential that can invoke agents and nothing else. Prefix `oc_live_`. See [API keys](/call/api-keys). |
| **Automatic deploy** | A build started by a push to the agent's branch. See [Automatic deploys](/deploy/auto-deploy). |
| **Build** | One attempt to turn a commit into an image, in nine stages. ID `bld_...`. See [Builds](/deploy/builds). |
| **Deployment** | Putting a version live: a release, or a rollback. See [Versions and rollback](/deploy/versions-and-rollback). |
| **Entrypoint** | The object in your code that is the agent, named in `agent.yml`. See [Entrypoints](/build/entrypoints). |
| **Event** | One thing a run reports: text, a tool call, a tool result, a step, or its end. See [Streaming and events](/build/streaming). |
| **Gateway** | What answers the invoke endpoint: checks the key, applies limits, calls your agent, streams the events. |
| **Organization** | Your team's account, and the boundary of everything in it. ID `org_...`. See [Organizations](/organizations/overview). |
| **Params** | The fields a caller sends beyond `prompt`, handed to your agent unchanged. See [the invoke API](/call/invoke). |
| **Rollback** | Putting an older version live again, with no build. See [Versions and rollback](/deploy/versions-and-rollback). |
| **Runtime** | The isolated, managed environment your agent runs in. |
| **Session** | A conversation key: calls with the same one reach the same running instance. See [Sessions](/build/sessions). |
| **Shim** | The code Onecortex adds to your image to find your agent and turn what it does into events. |
| **Smoke test** | The check every image passes before it can become a version: it starts, and answers one call. See [Builds](/deploy/builds#the-smoke-test). |
| **Step** | A named stage of a run, such as a LangGraph node. See [Streaming and events](/build/streaming#step_start-and-step_end). |
| **Surface** | The way a call arrived. Today, always `invoke`. |
| **Version** | An image that built and passed its smoke test, numbered per agent. ID `ver_...`. See [Versions and rollback](/deploy/versions-and-rollback). |
